Forty one Moldovan servicemen to participate in KFOR peacekeeping operation

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/ - The tenth contingent of the National Army on 8 December will leave for Kosovo, to take part in the KFOR peacekeeping operation. Those 41 professional servicemen will be deployed at the multinational base Camp Vilaggio Italia from the Pech settlement and their mission will last six months. 

At the detachment ceremony, held today, Defence Minister Eugen Sturza said that Moldova would boost its presence at the theatre of operations and in international peacekeeping missions, thus contributing to the European and international security. 

„You, the military, are those who will bear the banner of the country and will make Moldova known in Kosovo. I encourage you to accumulate as much experience as possible from our partners, from modern armies, which participate in the concerned mission and when you return home, to implement the best practices taken over from them,” Sturza said.   

The National Army’s contingent is made up of a general staff officer, seven engineers and a platoon of 33 servicemen, who will carry out missions of security and guard of military objects, as well as patrol missions.   

Moldovan military have been involved in peacekeeping missions in Kosovo since 2003.
