Moldovan foreign affairs minister receives president of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/ - The parliamentary elections due in 2019, Moldova’s cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, promoting measures of strengthening the confidence in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process were the main subjects of a discussion between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi and President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.      

The officials exchanged opinions on the parliamentary polls in Moldova, due in late next February. The sides stressed their importance and reviewed the developments related to the OSCE mission of observers, which already works in Moldova. In this context, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi reiterated Moldova’s appeal to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to send its observers to the parliamentary elections. He emphasized Moldova’s commitment to carry out a fair and democratic electoral process, based on the current standards.      

For his part, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli  confirmed the inter-parliamentary forum’s willingness to further back Moldova in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. He voiced hope that the parliamentary polls due in next February would be free and fair.  The two officials emphasized the valuable contribution of OSCE lawmakers to the promotion of reforms on the strengthening of democratic institutions in Moldova, through edifying the rule of law state, observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, organization and holding of free and fair elections.
