Moldovan foreign affairs ministers meets United Nations Secretary General

Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi has met United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

At the meeting, the Moldovan diplomacy head stressed the importance to observe the principle of international law and the UN Charter, which stayed at the basis of the adoption of resolution on the complete and unconditional withdrawal of the foreign military troops from the territory of Moldova. At the same time, Ulianovschi informed about Moldova’s intention to have a more active presence of Moldovan servicemen in peacekeeping operations under the aegis of the United Nations.   

The UN Secretary General reiterated the importance the United Nations attaches  to the process of Moldova’s transformation and modernization, for the benefit of the citizens. Antonio Guterres highly appreciated the medal, The Diplomatic Merit, awarded by MAEIE to UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova Dafina Gercheva, as a token of gratitude for her dedication, leaderism and devotion.   

The United Nations Secretary General welcomed the Moldovan government’s decision to open new missions, in order to extend the country’s diplomatic presence in Africa, Latin America and Asia. He stressed that this would contribute to the strengthening of both the bilateral relations with the world’s states and of the multilateral dialogue on the international stage.
