Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - A serious case of poaching was discovered in the central Straseni district on 29 January, nearby the Lozova village, where authorities found five killed deer.

According to the head of the Straseni Police Inspectorate, Ghenadie Malic, the mammalians were discovered by woodmen in the Codrii scientific reserve. The corpses of the animals were left on the edge of a road in the wood.

„Policemen collected samples on the spot and investigate the case and the killed animals were raised by physicians veterinaries for examination. Presently, a pretty wide range of suspects and technical means are investigated. All data are checked,” Ghenadie Malic noted.

The head of the Straseni Police Inspectorate also said that damages worth over 62,000 lei had been caused to the state following this case. If found guilty, the perpetrators run the risk of being sentenced to three years of imprisonment.

Three of the animals were young females and, according to forestry employees, this fact worsens this case even more. “There are females which were still to develop their reproduction functions, bringing offsprings and enriching the local fauna,” sources from the Moldsilva Forestry Agency told MOLDPRES.

The deer is one of the most spread species in the fauna populating Moldova. To keep under control the development of the species, which, at a given time, got in a critical state, the hunting of roebucks and stags is banned in the national forest space.
