Romania to provide 15 million euros for environment projects in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/- Romania will provide 15 million euros for projects aimed at environment protection, adaptation to climate change or reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The procedure was examined yesterday in Bucharest at a meeting where it was discussed the implementation of the Third Additional Protocol to the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the implementation of the program on technical and financial non-reimbursable assistance of one hundred million euros. In line with the provisions of Article 2 of the Protocol, 15 million euros will be earmarked for projects in the fields of environmental protection and climate change adaptation or to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, four projects will be financed. The first is to eliminate the sources of direct groundwater pollution by liquidating damaged / abandoned artesian fountains and assessing untapped wells for their preservation. Within the project will be carried out the works for the preservation or liquidation of 900 artesian wells located in the territory of 26 districts of the country.

The second project will be implemented by the Chisinau city hall, with a budget of 10 million euros, and presents solutions for adaptation to the climate change for the basin of the Bâc river. The third project is related to the restoration and maintenance of the lake ecosystems in the Prutul de Jos (Manta, Beleu), the total value of the project is 1.5 million euros.

The latest project concerns the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by improving the management of hazardous waste in the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, the program for monitoring and analyzing the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions will be implemented on specific sectors of the economy. The total value of the project is about 955 thousand euros.
