Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/- The project Improving water supply and sewerage services in Drochia is carried out according to the established plan. This conclusion was reached by the members of the local committee (CDL), held yesterday at Drochia city hall, who estimated the amount of work done in relation to the risks and challenges that arise.

CDL members have raised issues on contribution to individual connections to large-scale water supply networks; possibilities of compensating the connection expenses for disadvantaged categories of beneficiaries; review and recalculation of amounts for individual network connections; drafting and authorizing lists of needy families for compensation of connection payments from EU sources.

It was also appreciated as a success that the water from five wells in Drochia city was tested and the results will determine further decisions regarding the determination of the water source that will feed the locality. North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord) head Vitalii Povonschii said that investments in water quality should be priority, and then in aqueduct networks. "Given the public health, it is vital that people have access to safe drinking water," he said.

The project is implemented within the Program Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova, implemented by the International Cooperation Agency of Germany.

The Drochia water supply network will be extended by 8.9 km. At the same time, a drinking water treatment plant, two pumping stations, seven water castles and six drinking water tanks will be built and rehabilitated in Drochia.

About 17,300 inhabitants will be connected to the water supply system.
