Chisinau, 4 April /MOLDPRES/ - A segment of 6.55 km of the Chisinau city’s belt road will be restored in the next two years. The works will cost 9.9 million euros and will be financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The contract on rehabilitation was signed in Chisinau today.
The M2 road – the belt road of the Chisinau municipality, segment 0 – 6.55 km, was to be restored back several years ago; yet, the works were ceased and the contract was cancelled because of corruption acts.
Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici today said that a complicated procedure had followed after the contract’s cancellation, as the authorities tried to re-establish the negotiations and preserve the financing provided by EIB. The minister also said that it was important that the road’s repair be qualitative and carried out on the period set.
The head of the EIB representation in Moldova, Antonio Castillo, noted that the institution had ruled to continue backing this project, as it was regarding it as important for Moldova.
According to the director of the State Administration of Roads, Gheorghe Curmei, the companies due to carry out the works were selected following a tender, after they had offered the lowest price for the modernization of the road segment. The works are to start soon.
Seven contracts on roads’ restoration, financed from external resources, were cancelled in 2017-2018.
