More than half of Moldovan citizens travel to EU area in last five years

Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/ - Over two million Moldovan citizens benefited from the right to free movement to the European area on the period 2014-2019, since the free visa regime has been established. Thus, more than six million crossings of the state border were recorded.  

According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry, Moldova was the first country of the Eastern Partnership to get the free visa regime with the European Union. During the five years, the Moldovan authorities have ensured the fulfillment of the needed requirements staying at the basis of the liberalization of the visa regime with the European Union and its good work, by continuing to implement the reforms in the key sectors.  

The European Border and Coast Guard Agency said that, 0.3 per cent of cases of refusals of entries and 0.5 per cent of cases of irregular stay were registered in five years. Moldovan citizens proved a responsible attitude towards the freedom of movement in the European area.
