Three localities in Moldova's north provided with quality water

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ – Almost 800 households in villages Zaluceni, Vertiujeni and Targul – Vertiujeni, Floresti district, use tap drinking water. The investment in the new system construction and installation, with a total length of 43.6 km, amounts to MDL 29.1 million, money allocated through the Swiss Water and Sanitation Project (ApaSan) within a large project implemented by the Agency of North Regional Development (ADR Nord).

The new water supply system in three localities was inaugurated on 17 May, in the presence of officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM), Switzerland Cooperation Office, Moldova Branch of SKAT Foundation, etc.

State Secretary of MADRM, Valentina Tapis, specified that the objective of bringing drinking water to households has become a national level priority. At his turn, MP Eugeniu Nichiforciuc, said that such projects with regional impact should be multiplied in as many rural settlements as possible, so that the living standards of villagers can be improved. He assured that the state would continue supporting such initiatives.

"Our collaboration allowed us to do more together than we would have done independently," said SKAT Foundation chairman, Jonathan Hecke.

The construction and assembly works of watersupply system in Zaluceni, Vertiujeni and Targul – Vertiujeni villages were carried out within project: (Water for life in the North Region: Floresti and Soroca districts). There were built distribution networks of drinking water with a length of 14.5 km in village Zaluceni, at Vertiujeni – 17.1 km, and at Targul – Vertiujeni – 12 km. Also, there were installed additional pipelines with a total length of 10.7 km and there  were built water wells and water tanks. The three localities benefit from drinking water from the Dniester river. In perspective, the water supply system can be developed in several stages of expansion as to provide drinking water with 14 localities with a total number of 17,000 inhabitants.

The Floresti and Soroca projects have a total budget estimated at MDL 66.86 million, where the amount of MDL 29.90 million is requested from sources of the National Fund for Regional Development (FNDR) and MDL 30.4 million is ApaSan cofinancing. Also, the sum of MDL 4.73 million of the project total budget represents contribution of beneficiary population, MDL 1.42 million –contribution of S.A. Servicii Comunale Floresti, operator of systems, and MDL 0.417 million – contribution of local public administrations (APL). The sub – projects for localities Baghinesti, Cuhurestii de Sus and Cuhurestii de Jos are financed by FNDR, and ApaSan Project provides support for access to quality water services in Zaluceni, Targul – Vertiujeni, Vertiujeni and Japca.
