Moldovan president to coordinate work of Intelligence and Security Service

Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ - The director of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) might be appointed to office by the parliament, at a proposal by the head of state. The parliament adopted a draft law to this effect in the first reading today.   

Under the draft, the work of SIS is to be coordinated by the president of Moldova, within the limits of his competence and will be subjected to parliament’s control. Thus, SIS might be led by a director, appointed to office by the parliament, at a proposal by the Moldovan president, for a five-year term.

Also, the SIS director will be dismissed from office by the parliament, at a proposal by the head of state or at a proposal by at least one third of the elected lawmakers, if he/she is in a state of incompatibility, in conflict of interests, does not submit the income declaration and if there is an irrevocable court ruling or if a no confidence vote is expressed.    

The amendments refer also to the special high ranks and special ranks for the SIS director, due to be provided under decree by the Moldovan president.  

The draft law is to be passed in the final reading, in order to enter into force.
