Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union might resume the financial assistance provided to Moldova in next autumn, if the Moldovan government fulfills the commitments taken and implements reforms. European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn made statements to this effect in Chisinau today.

„Back in last September, I presented to the former prime minister Pavel Filip a list of fields in which we expect changes. The list was only partially tackled and I am confident that the new cabinet will approach these subjects urgently and I am sure that we will be able to resume the payments, including the budgetary support and the macro-financial assistance in next autumn, starting from September, provided that all these requests are tackled properly. After our today’s discussion, I have no doubt that it will happen like this,” the EU official said.

Hahn reiterated the need to ensure a transparent and professional judicial system and fight corruption. He gave assurances that the European Union was willing to provide Moldova with every necessary assistance to this end.

For her part, Prime Minister Maia Sandu said that the sides ruled to resume the political dialogue Chisinau between Moldova and EU in Chisinau today. Sandu noted that she discussed with Johannes Hahn the initiatives of the new cabinet, priorities of combating corruption, joint programmes, re-establishing the financing and the need to get technical assistance.

„Today, we were set to return to a normal and natural cooperation between Moldova and the European Union. The expectations from the new government are high. We want to move quickly and we rely on the assistance of the European partners,” Maia Sandu stressed.
