Moldovan PM meets U.S. congressman

Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/ – The substantial contribution of the financial assistance and support provided by USA to Moldova were discussed on Wednesday, 14 August, during the meeting of Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, with U.S. Congressman, Mike Quigley, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

PM Maia Sandu has launched the invitation to join the Political Support Group for Moldova in the U.S. Congress, which will help to strengthen the bilateral dialogue. "We shall highly appreciate the contribution of USA in supporting the ongoing reform processes in Moldova. We count on the support and good cooperation with USA in key areas such as: democracy and good governance, economic and financial development, security cooperation”, said Maia Sandu.

The PM has said the executive is fighting corruption and seeking solutions to recover money stolen from bank fraud. At the same time, Maia Sandu has stressed the need for proper management of state resources.

Also, the PM has outlined that the existing Government is interested in relaunching the Strategic Dialogue Moldova – USA and exploiting this format of cooperation, through the meetings of the joint working groups. Similarly, Maia Sandu thanked the American partners for the support offered for strengthening security, sovereignty and integrity of Moldova, but also for the US contribution in the process of settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.

At his turn, the U.S. official has reiterated the readiness of the USA to continue to support Moldova. Mike Quigley has stressed the need to ensure transparency in state decision – making processes, but also to fight corruption in Moldova.
