Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/ - A modern dialysis centre has been inaugurated in the southern Cahul city earlier this week. The institution will provide specialized medical services for patients from the southern region and is a public-private partnership project.

„The creation of the modern dialysis centre in the Cahul district is a benefit not only for the residents of the district, but also from the entire southern region. Presently, we have 16 patients; yet, the centre’s capacity is of 60-70 patients, with 48 dialysis sessions possible to be held daily,” the head physician of the Cahul-based dialysis centre, Iana Tabuncic, has said, quoted by the website www.ziuadeazi.md.

„With the opening of the Cahul-based dialysis centre, we have carried out one of the principal missions of the project: nationwide supply with dialysis services aligned with the high-quality European standards. Being focused exclusively on patients’ needs, we have managed to open another centre able to exceed their expectations. They wanted an advanced centre closer to their home; we provided them more, or the institution from Cahul supplies the patients subjected to dialysis with individualized treatment, based on the regular diagnostication,” the director general of the limited company BB-Dializă, Dmitri Onufreiciuc, said.

According to the head of the Urologists’ Society of Moldova, PhD in medicine Adrian Tanase said that, ”after the starting of the public-private partnership project for dialysis services in Moldova, initiated in 2016, the number of patients treated increased by about 30 per cent from 488 in 2015 to 688 in 2018.” “About 600 patients are registered at the BB-Dializă centres from Chisinau, Balti and Cahul alone, which accounts for over 85 per cent of all the number of patients subjected to dialysis in Moldova. Once the Cahul-based dialysis centre opened, the number of patients will considerably increase and this increase gets us closer to the indexes of including in the dialysis services from the Eastern Europe countries,” Adrian Tanase noted.

The dialysis centre from Cahul is endowed with 16 apparatus and can serve patients sick with chronic renal insufficiency in terminal phase. The medical services provided at the Centre are completed with psychological counseling, dietetic services with a meal adjusted to the regime specific to the patient subjected to dialysis. All patients will benefit from free of charge transport to move to procedures.

Dialysis is the medical treatment, through which water, excess of salts and toxins are eliminated from organism. Also, dialysis helps control the blood pressure and maintains a fit level of such substances as potassium and sodium in the body. When kidneys are no longer able to eliminate the excess of liquids and metabolic waste from the body, such a treatment as dialysis is needed. This procedure does not treat the kidneys, but only replaces them.
