Moldovan film director awarded at festival in Sarajevo

Chisinau, 24 September /MOLDPRES/ – Moldovan director, Dumitru Grosei, has won with film: Calarasi – un tinut la poarta raiului (Calarasi – a land at the gates of paradise), the Best Director award, at VIVA Film Festival 2019, 5th issue, which took place in Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 18 – 22 September.

According to organisers, VIVA Film Festival is among the top world 100 best festivals and it is one of the biggest festivals in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The films selected at this festival are being screened simultaneously in 17 other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The festival has 03 categories: ecological film, religious film and tourist film, where there were selected 96 films from all states and continents within official contest.

It is worth mentioning that since July 2018 until present, this film has gathered 20 selections and 05 awards in states, like: USA, Russia, Greece, Holland, Romania, India, Latvia, Iran, Iraq, Bosnia – Herzegovina and Brazil.

Recently, it has registered another record: it is the first film in Moldova for which it was made an audio description and subtitle for spectators with special needs of hearing and seeing. The audio – description of the film was made within project: The development and popularisation of techniques of audio – description of films in the Eastern Partnership Countries, funded by the International Visegrad Fund and administered by Human Doc from Poland. The audio description of the film was made by INFONET Alliance (Chisinau), by Victor Koroli, Viorel Zaporojan and Elena Cojocari. Now the film is available for this category of spectators, neglected in Moldova, according to specialists, almost entirely.

Director Dumitru Grosei was born in 1969, in village Marinici, Nisporeni district. In 1992 – 1994, he studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Iasi, and in 1999 he graduated the Faculty of Film Directing at the National University of Theatre and Cinematographic Art in Bucharest. In 1995, he was second director of French director, Bertrand Tavernier, of film: Capitaine Conan. Currently, Dumitru Grosei lives in Chisinau municipality and he is the head and founder of Association of Independent Cinema of Moldova Alternative Cinema. In 2016 – 2017, he held the position of director of the National Film Archive of Moldova (ANFRM).
