Chisinau, 26 September /MOLDPRES/ - The 18th issue of the National Wine Day, organized on 5-6 October 2019, will bring together a record number of wineries. Sixty eight Moldovan producers will display their wines in the centre of the Moldovan capital. At the current edition, visitors will be able to enjoy more surprises and foreign tourists coming to Moldova will receive on their phone the message, Bine ați venit în Moldova. Sunteți invitați la Ziua Națională a Vinului (Welcome to Moldova. You are Invited to the National Wine Day).

Besides the increase in the number of participants, this year, the holiday will have a bigger area, up to 25,000 square metres. This area will go beyond the Great National Assembly Square and will comprise the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral, reaching the Eugen Doga pedestrian street, where a stage will be set and the best native singers will perform.

At the holiday, wineries’ products will be placed based on the maps of the regions with Protected Geographical Indication and visitors will be able to buy a Card of Taster. The card will include information on the wineries present at the event and wines offered by them, 12 tickets for tasting, cut in prices for advertised materials, as well as tickets for travels in public transport.

The holiday will begin later this week by wineries of Moldova, which will open their doors for guests starting from 28 September till 13 October.

Organizers say that the number of visitors at the National Wine Day is increasing year after year. The director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, Gheorghe Arpentin, today in Chisinau said that tourists due to come to Moldova in the first week-end of October would receive in their phones the message, Welcome to Moldova. You are Invited to the National Wine Day. Besides the Moldovan wine, visitors will be able to enjoy traditional dishes, due to be offered by 12 restaurants of Moldova.

Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Georgeta Mincu said that vine-growing had become a family business in more villages of Moldova. She also said that the authorities would continue providing support for the organization of the Wine Day, so that Moldova remains on the world’s tourist map.

„Moldova has managed to preserve the tradition and impose the quality standards, so that at present, it is among the first ten exporters of the world. Wherever we go, we take with us a present, which is usually a bottle of wine. The Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) will make efforts to strengthen the vine and wine fund, which is to preserve the best varieties of vine, resistant to cold and drought. We have a vine and wine heritage and it is important for us to preserve it as a treasure,” the minister said.

The Wine Festival of Moldova, subsequently called National Wine Day, was held for the first time ever in 2002. Traditionally, the event takes place on the Great National Assembly Square and wineries of Moldova in the first week-end of October, after the harvesting of grapes.
