As many as 200,000 doses of vaccine to be brought to Moldova next October

Chisinau, 26 September /MOLDPRES/ – It will arrive a number of 200,000 doses of influenza vaccine in Moldova in early October, half of which will be donated by USA. The announcement was made by the head of the section at the National Agency for Public Healthcare (ANSP), Stefan Gheorghita.

According to quoted source, in 2019, the state will purchase, throughout the National Insurance Company for Medicine (CNAM), 100,000 doses of flu vaccine, tetravalent, manufactured in France and recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The cost of a vaccine dose will be MDL 120. The vaccine donated by U.S. partners will be produced in Spain.

The amount of 200,000 doses of vaccine will be distributed to the public healthcare institutions, after which, it will start the immunisation campaign against seasonal influenza of professional contingents and with increased risk of illness. The priority for vaccination will be patients with chronic diseases, medical workers, employees of carabineri and guards, rescuers, customs officers and children in orphanages.

The doctors announce that vaccination is the safest and most effective method of preventing influenza – like illnesses and recommend that everyone in the high – risk categories of illness apply for vaccination which is free. The benefits of influenza vaccination are: reducing the risk of severe forms of illness and number of illnesses, visits to doctors, loss of work or study days, as well as prevention of complications, hospitalisation and deaths caused by influenza.

The statistical data provided by the Ministry of Healthcare show that, there were registered 2,151 cases of influenza in 01 October 2018 – 31 March 2019.
