Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - Russia’s authorities have banned the import of 39 tons of plums and grapes from Moldova.

The decision was taken after inspectors had identified quarantine objects in the batch of goods. The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision ( Rosselkhoznadzor) made statements to this effect.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the results of laboratory tests confirmed that 19.93 tons of plums were infected with Grapholitha molesta Busck and 19.8 tons of grapes - with the pest, Halyomorpha halys Stal.

The consignment of goods was ceased by inspectors of the Rosselkhoznadzor  Office in the regions of Bryansk and Smolensk and was returned to importers from Moldova. The products were to be sold in Moscow and the Bryansk region.

This is not the first case of Russia prohibiting the import of Moldovan fruits. More batches of products from Moldova have been earlier returned back.
