Chisinau, 12 November /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union has issued a press release after the dismissal of the government led by Maia Sandu. In the communiqué, the EU said that “it commits to cooperate with those from Moldova who back the reform process which stays at the basis of the Association Agreement.”

A communiqué placed by Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Maja Kocijancic reads that the no-confidence vote given to the Moldovan cabinet today conveys an alarming signal for the reform process from Moldova.

„The coalition started a string of initiatives for the carrying out of the key commitments taken starting from last June, especially in the fields of fight against corruption, independence of the judicial system and investigating the bank fraud. The need of such reforms has not disappeared after the government’s dismissal. The European Union’s partnership will remain focused on providing tangible benefits to the Moldovan citizens. In this spirit, EU commits to cooperate with those from Moldova who back the reform process which stays at the basis of the Association Agreement, especially as regards the combating of corruption and interests gained, no matter the political affiliation, ensuring the independence of the judicial system and de-politicizing of the state’s institutions. We will continue relying in the relation with Moldova on the principle of conditionality and respect for the rule of law state and democratic standards,” the EU’s press release reads.

The cabinet of ministers led by Prime Minister Maia Sandu today was dismissed through motion of censure. Sixty three MPs of the Party of Socialists and Democratic Party voted for the dismissal.

The lawmakers have at their disposal three months to appoint a new cabinet of ministers.
