Parliamentary factions start consultations to identify candidate for position of prime minister

Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/- The parliamentary factions are starting today consultations to identify a candidate for the position of prime minister. MPs of PSRM, ACUM bloc, PDM and Shor Party are expected to state residence to discuss with the president.

ACUM bloc MPs announced they will convene in a meeting to decide whether to go to consultations.

Yesterday, President Igor Dodon announced he and the Socialists are opting to maintain the ruling coalition and are ready to accept another prime minister proposed by ACUM bloc, besides Maia Sandu. "What we have right now is a political crisis and we must find solutions so that it does not become a social and economic one. If the ACUM MPs do not accept keeping the coalition, then I will personally come up with solutions to overcome the crisis. I will propose a professional non-political prime minister and a technocrat cabinet, we will no longer admit ministers who do not know the realities in Moldova ”, Dodon said.

Later, in a TV show Dodon said “if the Government led by Maia Sandu had not failed for the initiative of assuming responsibility for amending the Law on Prosecutor's Office, then the executive would have left for refusal to index pensions, high level of crime, problems in economy.” He noted that the ministers wanted their dismissal, and other alliance than the one with the ACUM bloc in the current composition of parliament is excluded.

Today, the first are expected Socialist to consultations. The meeting with PSRM is scheduled for 10.00. Those from the ACUM bloc are invited for 11:00, Democrats - at noon and at 13:00 - the Shor Party.

The Cabinet of Ministers led by Prime Minister Maia Sandu was dismissed on 12 November by a censure motion. 63 MPs of PSRM and PDM voted to dismiss the government. Immediately after the adoption of the motion, the European Union, Romania and the United States sent messages to the political leaders from Chisinau, reiterating the need for justice reform.

Several political commentators have recommended to the MPs of the ACUM bloc and PSRM to consider the possibility of creating a ruling coalition with Democrats.

According to the legislation in force, MPs have three months to identify a prime minister and appoint a new government. If the process fails, snap polls are held.
