Moldovan president announces set of social measures

Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/- President Igor Dodon today announced seven social measures aimed at improving people’s lives. These include the increase of pensions, higher wages, increase of aid for the cold season.

The measures were announced by the head of state after a working session with Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Prime Minister Ion Chicu.

According to Dodon, the seven social measures will be implemented in the coming weeks and are meant to improve the quality of life of citizens.

He noted that over 625,000 pensioners will receive aid worth 700 lei before the winter holidays. Also, the legislation will be amended so that, starting with 2020, the indexation of pensions will be done twice a year.

In the short term, the aid for the cold season will be increased, from 350 to 500 lei. Thus, 300 thousand families will receive more help. At the same time, the law will be amended so that, in the case of the death of one spouse, the other can receive the deceased's pension for at least five years.

20 thousand veterans will benefit from monthly allowance increases. They will raise 200 lei more monthly than they received so far. The young specialists in the medical field will also receive higher benefits. The amounts will be increased up to 120 thousand lei.

Starting next year, wage increases are expected in the public sector, on average by 10%. Most, up to 18%, will increase the salaries of teachers and educators. Social workers will get up by about 16 per cent.  For all employees in the public sector, the annual premium will amount to up to 50% of the average monthly salary.
