Moldovan speaker attends event on 25th anniversary of Court of Accounts

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/- Today Speaker Zinaida Greceanii participated in a ceremony dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova. The event brought together many officials of the supreme audit institutions in the EU and other countries of the world, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Attending the event were MPs Vladimir Golovatiuc, head of the economy, budget and finance committee, Igor Munteanu, chairman of the public finance control committee, Tatiana Cunetchi, member of the public finance control committee.

Greceanii noted that the celebration of 25 years since the establishment of the Court of Accounts is a reference event and a moment to analyze the role of the supreme audit institution in the context of the current challenges and the three fundamental principles: autonomy, independence and transparency.

"The mission of the Court of Accounts is related to promoting responsibility, fairness and best practices in managing public money. The Supreme Audit Institution is one of the state's best instruments in the fight against corruption and the underground economy. The institution has had an important role in controlling the management of public finances, being one of the pillars of the rule of law ”, the speaker said.

Greceanii highlighted that the Moldovan Court of Accounts is a member of international professional organizations and associations, as well as has a good bilateral cooperation with the supreme audit authorities in other states. This leads to a better professional training of the employees and a continuous institutional improvement.

"The Moldovan Court of Accounts has reached a stage when it can provide technical and expert assistance to similar institutions in other countries", she said.

The speaker noted that the parliament has always been concerned with legislative improvement in the financial control and will continue to show high responsibility for analyzing the documents and reports from the Court of Accounts.

"The Court of Accounts has obtained full financial independence, the law being adopted by the Parliament. Now you have all responsibility to further develop and strengthen the role of external audit in our country, " she said.

Zinaida Greceanîi also said that in the context of efforts to strengthen the efficient monitoring of the use of public money, the creation of the Standing Parliamentary Commission for the control of public finances is included.

The official sent to all staff appreciation for results and reiterated the legislature full openness for further good cooperation.

Finally, Greceanii conveyed congratulations on upcoming winter holidays, wishing health, joy and happiness to the employees of the institution and their families’ members.
