New measures, restrictions by crossing state border set up

Chisinau, 16 March /MOLDPRES/ - Border Police and Customs Service are strengthening several measures to reduce the risk of spread of new type Coronavirus infection, especially at border crossing points and individual protection measures to subordinates, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

According to the decision No9 of 15 March 2020 of the national commission of public health, from 17 March, at 00:00, the authorization to cross the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border is prohibited and from 17 March, at 8:00 pm, the authorization to cross the Moldovan-Romanian state border by foreign citizens at entry to Moldova through the state border crossing points is open to traffic.

This restriction shall not refer to foreigners and stateless people permanently / temporarily residing, drivers and staff servicing vehicles, who carry goods, crews of aircraft / ships and brigades of train liners. Exception are members of diplomatic missions and consular offices accredited in the Republic of Moldova, of international organizations / missions and their family members. Entering Moldova of other categories of foreigners will be authorized following the coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

Upon official information by the border and customs authorities of Romania and Ukraine, as well as based on the decision of the competent national authorities, several state border crossing points will be closed for an indefinite period. (Annex to Decision of the National Public Health Commission No7 of March 13, 2020).

From 12 March 2020, air transport with Italy was suspended, as well as the obligation for air operators not to allow passengers, who are coming to the Republic of Moldova, from Italy, China, Iran and South Korea. Also, from 15 March, at 00:00, air routes with France and Spain will be canceled.

From 17 March, at 00:00, air traffic will be stopped by border crossing point Chisinau International Airport, regardless of direction of entry or exit from Moldova.

We urge participants in cross-border traffic to postpone travel and show a preventive attitude towards the COVID-19 virus!
