Distance online classes not to be held in Moldova next week

Chisinau, 27 March /MOLDPRES/ - No online distance education process will be carried out both in the public education institutions and the private ones of all levels on the period 30 March – 3 April, given the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) issued an order to this effect, in accordance with the decisions by Moldova’s Commission for Emergency Situations.     

Under the Commission’s instructions, MECC suspended also the holding of Republican Olympiads in education disciplines till 18 May 2020. At the same time, the ministry postponed also the carrying out of the testing of the candidates for the national school-leaving examinations, established for the period 30 March – 11 April, for a period due to be announced additionally.  

Also, during the state of emergency, in line with the instructions of the Commission for Emergency Situations, MECC prolonged the period of suspension of the process of continuous professional training of the teaching and managerial staff, of the activities of learning both for children and adults, provided by legal entities of public or private law.  

Under the instructions by Moldova’s Commission for Emergency Situations, the competent ministry suspended also more cultural and sports activities. Thus, to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection, the ceasing of activities in culture institutions (theatre and concert institutions, museums, libraries, community homes, creation centres) is extended on the entire period of the state of emergency.  

At the same time, the period of ceasing the organization and holding of sports events, training, training camps and sports competitions is extended for all the period of the state of emergency. The carrying out sports exercises in public spaces, parks, woods, playgrounds or leisure zones is banned too.  

State of emergency was declared all over Moldova on the period 17 March – 15 May 2020, given the COVID-19 pandemic.  As many as 199 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus are registered today.
