Chisinau, 5 May /MOLDPRES/- The Special Service for Active Influence on Hydrometeorological Processes (Anti-Hail Service) informs that the rains with lightning and hail of the past days have affected agricultural lands in Taraclia - Mirnoe town hall; Cahul - Vadul lui Isac town hall; Leova - Filipeni town hall, spaces that are outside the protection area from extreme weather phenomena.
Currently, the authorities are assessing the area of affected crops and estimating the damage, and experts say that the effectiveness of launching anti-hail missiles is 75-90%. "This is one of the highest indicators of all other methods of protection," sources of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment said.
According to the institution, currently, out of about three million hectares of agricultural land in Moldova, only 65% are protected from extreme weather events through 12 special units of anti-hail service with 132 missile points.
According to the Anti-Hail Service, the protection zone includes 25 districts from all regions of the country, and the effectiveness of anti-hail works is demonstrated annually by constantly decreasing the degree of damage to protected areas, compared to unprotected.
Previously, the special service has presented a project for the development of anti-hail works, which provides for the organization of several automated missile points, mainly in the south of Moldova. It is also planned to install more weather radars, which will improve the hail information system.
