North Moldova river basin ecologically rehabilitated with support of foreign partners

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Camenca river basin has been ecologically rehabilitated, due to a project carried out with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Austrian Development Agency (ADA). The programme’s goal was to enhance the ecological awareness of the citizens and involve the communities in the improvement of the ecological state of the Camenca river’s hydrographic basin, for the proper management of the water resources.  

In the context, decision-makers elaborated the Integrated Plan of Management of the hydrographic basin of the Camenca river, including of its tributaries, in line with the management according to the principles of the integrated management of water resources. Also, the plan is in compliance with the provisions of the European Union Water Framework Directive, as integrant part of the Prut river’s Management Plan. The document contains a general description of Camenca’s hydrographic basin, with the analysis of the geographic, climatic, geological, hydrological and ecological characteristic features.      

Also within the project, two ecological expeditions will be organized this summer: making and inventory and classifying all waste deposits which pollute water courses, with the elaboration of the Black Book of the Camenca hydrographic basin, inventorying and sorting of springs which supply with water the rivers of the hydrographic basin, Blue Book of this area. These documents will contain recommendations, due to be proposed for the future activities of re-establishing Camenca’s hydrographic basin.       

All activities are carried out within the SDC-ADA project, Strengthening institutional framework in the water supply and sanitation sector of Moldova.
