Chisinau, 8 July /MOLDPRES/ - The return of Moldovan goods to the Russian market is due to the efforts by President Igor Dodon and the current cabinet of ministers. Russia’s Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov has made statements to this effect in an interview given to the Russian agency TASS.

In the interview, the diplomat said that Russia did not impose an external vector of development for Moldova; it will always protect its interests. Vasnetsov noted that the Moldovan partners had been warned in Moscow that the enforcement of the EU agreements signed by the Moldovan government in 2014 would have a negative impact on the whole range of economic relations with Russia, which was the principal market for the Moldovan goods for more years.

„We were not heard and the Russian government had to introduce restrictions on the import of more Moldovan products,’’ the official said.

According to Oleg Vasnetsov, Russia has always opposed the creation of a new division line both in Europe and all over the world. ‘’We do not look for enemies and we are open for a mutually beneficial cooperation with all countries. At the same time, just as the last years’ events have clearly proved, we will not make compromises with the national security interests,’’ the diplomat specified.

The ambassador noted that the Moldovan leadership’s wish to extend the field of bilateral cooperation with Russia was regarded well in Moscow.  ‘’The difficult period is over, when the interaction between our countries was developing mainly due to the meetings of the heads of state. In the last months, this interaction actively extended to the level of parliaments, governments and regions. In Moscow, the leadership of Moldova is welcome. Despite the difficulties, we are prepared to edify the dialogue on a solid basis of the Treaty on friendship and cooperation between our countries, signed in 2001,’’ Vasnetsov said. He stressed that the export in Moldovan goods to Russia had increased in the last months.
