Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved the starting of negotiations and approving the signing of the Agreement, compiled by exchange of notes, between Moldova’s government, European Commission and the government of Ukraine on the extension of the mandate of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) till 30 November 2023.

The goal of the agreement is to ensure the prolongation of EUBAM’s mandate for the next three years, starting from 1 December 2020. The Mission’s mandate was extended five times (in 2007; 2009; 2011; 2015 and 2017). The current mandate of EUBAM expires on 30 November 2020.

The EUBAM mission is a structure set up to control the traffic at the border between Moldova and Ukraine. The mission was created in November 2005, at a joint demand by the two countries’ presidents. The EUBAM mission is fully financed by the European Union.
