Moldovan president welcomed Constitutional Court's decision last week

Chisinau, 10 August /MOLDPRES/- President Igor Dodon welcomed today after a meeting with Prime Minister and Speaker the Constitutional Court decision last week that the president may be suspended if he does not submit the proposal for prime minister position of a formalized parliamentary majority.

Dodon believes "this decision puts an end to the phenomenon of dismissing the president for five minutes". "It is a correct decision, which brings clarity on how to dismiss the president - the vote must be one of 67 MPs, followed by a national referendum to be approved by a larger number of citizens than those who voted for president – in this case, 836,000 plus one for dismissal,” he said.

At the same time, he said “the decision brings clarity to appoint a prime minister.” "The Constitutional Court decision says that the president is obliged to nominate proposal of a formalized majority for prime minister position. A formalized majority is announced in the parliamentary meeting. If there is no formalized majority, the president can announce another candidate," Dodon said.

The Constitutional Court ruled on 6 August that the president is obliged to nominate the candidate put forward by the parliamentary majority for premier position.
