Moldova facing double risk - president says

Chisinau, 12 August /MOLDPRES/- Drought situation registered in the Republic of Moldova, COVID-19 pandemic and recovery of the robbed money from the banking sector were discussed at today’s meeting of the Supreme Security Council.

President Igor Dodon summed up the issues discussed at the Security Council meeting, saying that Moldova is going through double risk situations - drought that affected agricultural crops and coronavirus pandemic, which affects both population health and state economy.

He said that Moldova’s food safety has not been affected and the authorities are doing everything possible to help farmers.

Referring to the pandemic situation, the president said there was no collective immunity. "Four cases of repeated coronavirus disease have been registered in Moldova," he said. He urged Moldovan citizens to comply with measures to reduce COVID-19 infection and be careful.

Speaking about the third issue discussed at the meeting of the Supreme Security Council, Dodon said that the authorities have recovered 6.3 billion lei and there is an acceleration for the recovery of money that is outside. "Moldova has signed requests for legal assistance with 51 states, and with 19 countries we already have commissions that will allow the recovery of hundreds of millions of dollars", he said.
