Mooldovan authorities to borrow 70 million euros to fight effects of COVID-19 pandemic

Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova will contract a loan of about 70 million euros to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The parliamentary committee on economy, budget and finance decided today to propose to parliament the ratification of the Framework Loan Agreement between Moldova and the Development Bank of the Council of Europe for the Project Emergency response to COVID-19 and support for micro, small and medium enterprises.

According to the document, out of the 70 million euros, about 40 will be allocated for the health system. The financial resources will be used to purchase medical equipment and consumables, rehabilitation of medical units and mobilizing additional expertise to ensure an emergency response to COVID-19.

30 million will be earmarked for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. Funding will be allocated to working capital and investment needs of companies affected by the crisis, helping them to keep their jobs.

The above-mentioned agreement was signed in 29 July 2020.
