Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today chaired a meeting of the Road Fund’s Council. The participants in the event considered and approved the co-financing from road fund’s resources of the Project on Improvement of Local Roads, implemented from sources provided by the World Bank.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, following discussions, the Council members ruled to ensure the continuity of the WB-financed project, so that the works are finished successfully in all settlements provided for in the project. In these conditions, the cabinet of ministers will additionally allocate about 130 million lei for the repair of the local road R3-Pojareni-Costesti-Horesti-Tipala-R32, with a length of 34 km. The money will be distributed from the road fund’s budget for the next three years.

The PM drew the attention of the officials of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI) and State Administration of Roads (ASD) to the quality of the works carried out. ‘’It is important for us to meet the terms provided for in the contract and, at the same time, not allow deviations from the quality standards. Thus, the residents of these villages will benefit from good roads in settlements as much time as possible,’’ Ion Chicu said.

The World Bank provided Moldova with a loan worth 80 million dollars for a five-year repayment period for financing works of restoration and modernization of about 300 km of local roads; emphasis was put on regional corridors, which provide connection of villages to national highways.
