Moldovan Technical University to benefit from EU's support within cross-border project

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan Technical University (UTM), in partnership with the Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine from Iasi, Romania, have launched a cross-border project IntelWastes, financed by the European Union through the programme, Cross Border Cooperation Romania – Republic of Moldova.      

The project’s goal is to strengthen the universities’ capacities of research and innovation through sustainable cross-border cooperation for the efficient use of industrial agro-food waste got from the processing of grapes, fruits and vegetables. The cross-border impact of the project consists also in the creation of joint teams of research and innovation with complementary powers in the solving of joint problems – management of agro-food industrial waste.  

At an event on the project’s launch, Education, Culture and Research Minister Igor Sarov said that he welcomed the UTM’s involvement in such actions, especially as the scientific sector must come up with solutions to improve the living standards.

„The project, Intelligent turning to account of industrial waste, fits the policies of the Education Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) in the sector as regards the impact of the results of the activity of research and innovation on the business environment and the society on the whole. MECC appreciates the relevance and up-to-dateness of the project’s topics: efficient use of industrial agro-food waste, got from the processing of grapes, fruits and vegetables; in the context, we note that the national programme in the research and innovation field is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the national system of research and innovation and ensuring the best conditions for the generation of new knowledge got from fundamental and applied researches and their implementation, in order to enhance the competitiveness of the national economy and the general level of well-being,’’ Igor Sarov said.   

The bilateral strategic partnership between Romania and Moldova was launched in April 2010, through the signing of a joint declaration on the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between the two states for Moldova’s European integration.
