Moldovan leadership holds meeting

Chisinau, 2 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in traditional discussions with President Igor Dodon and Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii. The Moldovan leadership assessed the way the 1 November 2020 presidential elections were held and the officials discussed the most important events which took place last week, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

In his press statements, the PM thanked the citizens for the massive coming to vote, as well as the electoral civil servants and observers for ensuring fair elections. ‘’I want to thank from the bottom of my heart the citizens who fulfilled their civic duty. Thus, we managed to pass this first test of the responsible exam for Moldova. I thank the electoral civil servants who fulfilled their duty successfully, despite the risks related to the pandemic, as well as the observers who monitored the elections,’’ the prime minister said.   

The prime minister referred also to the preparations for the runoff of the presidential polls, due to be held on 15 November. In this respect, Ion Chicu said that the government would provide needed support to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) for the ensuring of a fair and transparent ballot, with the observance of all protection measures imposed by the pandemic.

The prime minister said that the education process today was held online at the 754 schools from Moldova which provided rooms for electoral bureaus. The education continues as normal in the other schools. The same algorithm will be applied on the day after the runoff too.

The PM said that the cabinet had provided all payments for last October. In particular, Ion Chicu touched upon the sum of 600 million lei paid to the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) and another 600 million lei was earmarked for the one-off support to the pensioners and beneficiaries of social payments. At the same time, the first salary for medical employees, increased by 30 per cent, was paid without delay as well.   

Ion Chicu stressed the need to carry through the Good Roads project.

„The situation in the districts which last week reported problems in this respect, Glodeni, Soroca and Hancesti, is good now. Discussions with representatives of the State Administration of Roads and Economics and Infrastructure Ministry show that intense work is carried out. I hope very much that the stage planned for this year will be finished and next year, we should continue with the next stage,’’ the prime minister noted.     

The PM also spoke about the schedule of the new programme with IMF. After the runoff of the elections, the government will submit to parliament the draft law on strengthening the BNM’s independence.

Also, the government is in the last phase with the draft of the budgetary and fiscal policy for 2021. Amendments will be included in this draft, so that the draft law due to be approved by the cabinet meets the expectations and, first of all, of business people.  

In the end, the prime minister referred to the health condition of master, fiddler Nicolae Botgros, who was infected with the Covid-19 virus. ‘’I received news from Health Minister Dumbraveanu. The health condition of master Nicolae Botgros is improving. We pray to God for everything to be good and the master to return as soon as possible and make us happy with his divine talent and mastership,’’ Ion Chicu said.
