18:51 | 15.12.2020 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Moldova, estimated for the third quarter of this year, amounted to 61,719 million lei, at current prices, and dropped by 8.2 per cent, in gross series, against January-September 2019.

According to the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), the 9.5-per cent decrease of the economic value added, which has the biggest share in the formation of GDP – 88.5 per cent – led to the decrease in this indicator. The cut in the net taxes on product, the volume of which reduced by 11.2 per cent, led to the GDP’s decrease too.

At the same time, statistics data shows that a 7.2-per cent increase in the activities in constructions and financial and insurances activities, with a growth of 7.8 per cent, had positive contributions to the GDP’s evolution.

From the viewpoint of use, the GDP’s drop in the third quarter of 2020 against the same period of the year before was due, mainly, to: final consumption, especially the end consumption of residents’ households, the volume of which decreased by 8 per cent and the net export of goods and services, which dropped by 20.6 per cent.

The reduction of the economic activity was triggered by the interdictions imposed by combating the new-type coronavirus. As many as 128,656 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Moldova so far.
