Moldovan art critic edits monograph on fine arts from 20th century

Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/ - A well-known historian and art critic, Tudor Stavila, has recently edited the second volume of the monograph, Artele frumoase din Basarabia în secolul al XX-lea”, (The Fine Arts in Bessarabia in the 20th Century).   

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Tudor Stavila said that the volume comprised 337 pages and appeared in 150 copies. ‘’The monograph is dedicated to the history of arts from Bessarabia, pursuing its regional interferences (Russia, Ukraine, Romania),’’ the author said.    

Tudor Stavila was born in the Ciocalteni village, central Orhei district, on 23 September 1952. He graduated from the Kiev-based State Institute of Fine Arts in 1981 and trained for his doctor’s degree at the Arts Study Institute of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences in 1991. He maintained his thesis of doctor in 1993 and in 2004 – the thesis of PhD in arts’ study. Stavila worked as programme manager at Moldova’s National Commission for UNESCO.

He is author of 150 publications, which appeared in Chisinau, Bucharest, Moscow, Istanbul, dedicated to problems of the universal art, history of the medieval, modern and contemporary art from Moldova.  

Art critic Tudor Stavila was awarded the Prize of the Moldovan Fine Arts Union (1999), Prize of the Editor’s Association from Romania for the Best Romanian book published outside Romania and others.
