Speech by Moldovan President, Supreme Commander of Armed Forces at ceremony on detaching of National Army's contingent to KFOR mission in Kosovo

Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ - Dear Servicemen,

Your Excellency Mr. Ambassador,

Distinguished audience,

I am honored today to attend this ceremony, in order to express my personal appreciation, as well as our everybody’s gratitude and support to the National Army’s military involved in the peacekeeping mission on the scene of operations in Kosovo.    

Through its servicemen’s participation in international peacekeeping operations, Moldova not only turns to good account its human potential, but also consolidates its cooperation relations with the foreign partners, fostering the degree of their confidence in our country’s capacities to provide peace and stability.  

Your performance, dear military, at various international cooperation activities, constant and responsible involvement in training exercises enhances the level of military training and cultivates a professional approach towards the importance of promoting peace and security in the world.  

Undoubtedly, the success of these efforts is the result of a long-lasting and productive cooperation with our international partners.  

Availing myself of this occasion, I would like to offer thanks to the United States and Italy for the assistance provided to Moldova to strengthen the capacities of training our military who participate in missions and for the logistic support, from which the National Army’s contingent benefits in the Kosovo scene of operations.     

During these years, over 500 National Army servicemen have taken part in diverse international peacekeeping missions and operations, including KFOR. I express appreciation and gratitude to these military, who professionally fulfill their missions on scenes of operations, putting at risk their lives for the sake of the commitments taken by Moldova as member of the international community.   

I will make sure that, in the process of National Army’s modernization, emphasis will be put on developing the capabilities in this sector.   

Dear servicemen,

Covering with much perseverance the stages of training for this operation, in the conditions dictated by the epidemiological situation, I am confident that, just as the colleagues from the previous contingents, you will have a very good performance and will represent Moldova’s banner with dignity.

I voice confidence that your abilities and knowledge will help you interact efficiently with the military of other states, as well as create constructive relations with the local residents, thus contributing to the maintenance of a safe and stable environment in the Western Balkans.

Please, convey to the members of your families our sincerest thanks for the understanding and moral support they give you.  

Go successfully and we are expecting you home healthy. I wish you success in continuation in the noble mission to serve the country under the tricolor flag abroad as well!
