People born in Gulag regarded as victims of political repressions in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 January /MOLDPRES/ - The children of the people who were subjected to political repressions are victims of political repressions.

The Constitutional Court (CCM) has declared unconstitutional the phrase which reads that ‘’the children of the people subjected to repressions, who were born in the places of repressions or on the way to them are regarded as children coming from the marriage concluded ahead of the repression’’ from the Law No 296 from 23 November 1994. Thus, the children of the people subjected to political repressions are regarded as victims of political repressions.

At a news briefing, President of Moldova’s Constitutional Court Domnica Manole said that the phrase subjected to consideration had ran counter the provisions of the Article 1 of the Constitution, Article 4 and Article 16, paragraphs 1 and 2, which establish the principle of equality and read that all Moldova’s citizens are equal before the law. ‘’The children born in the places of repression or on the way to them, if one of the parents was/is victim of political repression, are also regarded as victims of political repression,’’ Domnica Manole also said.

MP Octavian Ticu in last June submitted a notification on the control of constitutionality of some provisions of the Article 1 of the Law No 296 from 23 November 1994 for the interpretation of provisions of the Law on the rehabilitation of the victims of political repressions.
