COVID-19 reduced activity of Moldovan entrepreneurs, demand for labor - survey

Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/- The Covid-19 pandemic affected the labor market in the Republic of Moldova, compressing the activity of Moldovan entrepreneurs and the demand for labor.

The National Agency for Employment organized an online meeting in which it presented the preliminary data of the survey Labor market forecast and Barometer of professions for 2021, including by regions. The survey was conducted following the survey of a sample of 2,949 employers in various branches of the national economy, of which 74.3% from the private sector, 18.7% from the public sector and 7% other forms of ownership, the largest share being employers with less than 50 employees (about 68%).

The Covid-19 pandemic affected the labor market, compressing the labor demand and the activity of the employers. Under the preliminary survey data, only 26% of all employers planned investments in 2021.

At the same time, in the next 12 months, the number of employees will increase slightly compared to 2020, creating employment opportunities for programmers, doctors, nurses, sales operators, seamstress, driver, telecommunications operator, electric generator etc.

Follwing the survey, the study of short-term labor market forecast under the approved methodology is to be worked out, where the data of the National Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure will be analyzed.
