Moldovan head of state has meeting with European Parliament president

Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with President of the European Parliament David Sassoli. The head of state thanked the EU official for the constant support for Moldova and the country’s European integration, the presidential press service has reported.  

„The European Parliament has always been by the side of Moldova and the European MPs have been constant backers of the democratic processes in our country. The members of the European Union’s legislative body during more years have consistently promoted a more ambitious policy towards Moldova and supported, by diplomatic means, as well as through financial backing, the fight against corruption and the strengthening of the rule of law state,’’ Maia Sandu said at the meeting.   

Also, during the discussion with the European Parliament president, the Moldovan head of state referred to the priorities of her mandate in the office of president, in particular, the fight against corruption, speeding up the access to the anti-Covid-19 vaccine for first-line physicians and medical employees, getting support for the Moldovan farmers hit by the drought and for small- and medium-sized enterprises.

„A special subject deals with the way EU can contribute to the local development and namely through the support of programmes at the level of communities. At the same time, we tackled also the domestic political developments, reforms planned on our European agenda and opportunities of cooperation with the EU’s legislative body on the parliamentary dimension. I hope that our dialogue and the deepening out cooperation will bring real benefits for our citizens in the long run as well,’’ Maia Sandu added.
