Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu and Head of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova / CALM / Tatiana Badan signed today an agreement on building and developing the partnership between the Moldovan President and CALM.

According to the head of state, the document sets a long-term cooperation. "Moldova will become a prosperous country if the change for the better is made in every village. Local development is the key to raising standards. Expectations from mayors are high. People want to have tap water and sewerage, people want to have jobs in localities. And mayors must have all the resources to solve problems. Big projects require a lot of money, and local budgets are small, and often the money was divided unfairly. There are problems and my commitment is to contribute to find solutions ", said Sandu, after signing the agreement.

The president asked central institutions not to abuse controls and to support local authorities.

"For the first time we have the honor to sign a collaboration agreement. We talked about those moments when mayors often had to take to the streets and demand their rights. I am glad we managed to discuss the important issues of the local government community. We want a lot of joint work, efficiency and less bureaucracy. We hope that this agreement will benefit local authorities and citizens ", Badan said.

Every year, the Day of Local Autonomy is marked on 1 February in Moldova.
