Two producers from Transnistria certified GLOBALG.A.P.

Chisinau, 9 February /MOLDPRES/- Two fruit producers in the Transnistrian region have received GLOBALG.A.P. certificates, which confirm the quality of apples, compliance with food safety requirements and environmental protection in the production process of fruits harvested in 2020.

The enterprises are among the largest agricultural companies in the Transnistrian region that produce through modern technologies apples, apricots, cherries, plums, etc. To prove buyers abroad that the fruits produced are safe for consumption, the two companies, with the help of the project of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) High Value Agriculture in Moldova, have implemented GLOBALG.A.P. standards.

The GLOBALG.A.P. standard includes the entire production process, from the selection of agricultural land to the delivery of fruit and vegetables to the market. Thus, the implementation of the GLOBALG.A.P. assures the buyer that fruits and vegetables are safe for consumption.

According to Iuri Diuța, president of the Dnestr Fruct Association, the two companies in the region, being leaders of the association, will encourage other members to implement international standards to promote the image of fruits in the region.

"GLOBALG.AP certification is the final stage in a complex process that involves farmers' investments in the agricultural business, the adoption of new production practices they have learned about in USAID's training programs over the years," USAID Moldova mission director Scott Hocklander said.

In the Republic of Moldova, over 70 agricultural producers have been certified GLOBALG.A.P., and most of them reconfirm their compliance with the requirements every year.
