Italian envoy completes diplomatic mission in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/- Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aureliu Ciocoi had a meeting today with Ambassador of Italy Valeria Biagiotti on completion of diplomatic mission in the country.

According to the government's communication and protocol department, the officials noted the positive dynamics of the Moldovan-Italian bilateral relations.

Ciocoi praised Italy's support for promoting Moldova's European agenda and expressed openness to strengthen the bilateral legal framework in several areas, including social security. The sides reviewed the development prospects of bilateral cooperation within international organizations, including taking over the Italian experience in energy efficiency, information technology, infrastructure and organic farming. However, he voiced Moldova's interest in using economic potential and enhancing Moldovan-Italian bilateral trade.

The epidemiological situation in the country was another key topic on the agenda. The Republic of Moldova has registered in the COVAX program to benefit from the support of international organizations and foreign donors in getting the vaccine against SARS CoV-2. "We will be grateful to the Italian government for identifying the possibility of donating a batch of effective pandemic vaccines to Moldova", he said.

He appreciated the work of Biagiotti during her term of office and thanked her for contribution to promoting Moldovan-Italian cooperation relations on several priority dimensions. 

On 23 December 2020, Valeria Biagiotti was awarded the Order of Honor for prodigious work as Italian Ambassador to Moldova.
