Chisinau, 11 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today evening had consultations with the parliamentary factions, after the nominated candidate, Natalia Gavrilita, had failed to get a vote of confidence of the parliament.

Following the consultations with President Maia Sandu, the faction of the Democratic Party (PDM) said that it would not back the candidacy of Mariana Durlesteanu, put forward by the Party of Socialists (PSRM) for the office of prime minister.

An MP of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Alexandru Slusari, reiterated the proposal announced to put forward Andrei Nastase for the position of PM. ‘’Maybe we still have room for manoeuvre and this majority alliance will not be accepted; otherwise, the situation becomes quite complicated. You know our position; if it is not late, we remain with our proposal,’’ Slusari said.

A lawmaker of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Igor Grosu, noted that PAS would do its utmost for the snap parliamentary elections to be held.

A PSRM MP, Corneliu Furculita, said that Mariana Durlesteanu enjoyed the support of a majority of 54 lawmakers. ‘’We expect the president to observe the Constitution and we believe that Mariana Durlesteanu is a fit candidacy for the office of prime minister,’’ Furculita said.

The nominated candidate, Natalia Gavrilita, and her team today did not receive the vote of confidence of the parliament. No MP voted for the swearing in officer of this cabinet of ministers. Under the Constitution, the Moldovan president is to nominate a candidate for the office of PM for the second time.
