Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved an instruction on the organization and holding of the events on the Memory Day, annually marked on 2 March. The day is dedicated to the commemoration of the people who died in the 1992 armed conflict for the defence of Moldova’s integrity and independence, as well as the victims of this conflict.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the document approved includes a plan of events dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the unleashing of the combat actions, as well as the creation of the committee in charge of the organization of the activities planned.

The Plan sees a string of actions, due to be organized in more Moldova’s settlements, including on the battle plateaus and in churches. A rally for commemorating the heroes who died for the defence of Moldova’s integrity and independence will be held on 2 March 20121. At the same time, the leaders of the public authorities and the veterans’ organizations will lay flowers at the Grieving Mother monument placed at the Eternity memorial venue and at the monument to Ruler Stefan cel Mare.

At the same time, on the eve of the Memory Day, more activities of patriotic education will be organized at the education institutions and in military units. The participants will stand silent for one minute in the memory of those who died on battlefields.

At a today’s parliament meeting, the MPs voted for the renaming of the Memory Day into the Memory and Gratitude Day. ‘’In my opinion, this is an absolutely necessary thing; we must be grateful to the veterans who died, who shed blood and were wounded, staying at the basis of preserving Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,’’ Aureliu Ciocoi said.
