Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/- The situation in agriculture and the distribution of subsidies and aid in the sector was the key topic of the discussion that President Maia Sandu had on Friday evening with acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi and acting Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju, the presidential press service has reported.

Maia Sandu asked the Minister of Agriculture to elaborate, in consultation with the farmers' representatives, the criteria and mechanism for distributing the aid in the form of diesel, announced by Romania last week. "We insisted that aid should reach as many farmers as possible and, in particular, that it should go to those who need it most, helping them to save their businesses in these difficult times." said the head of state.

Another topic referred to the activity of the National Ecological Fund and the National Fund for Regional Development, in connection with which several violations were reported. Maia Sandu called for external evaluations on how resources have been allocated in recent years.

She also asked Ion Perju to find solutions for resuscitation of agricultural advisory services in the territory, so that small farmers can quickly get the advice of specialists, and speed up the launch of the subsidy mechanism in the livestock sector, which is in critical condition.
