Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/- The crisis related to COVID-19 has aggravated existing vulnerabilities and puts enormous pressure on Moldova's economy, which is less competitive and dependent on external factors. These are the conclusions of the UNDP Human Development Report, launched on February 18, 2021.

Over 100 people participated in the report, including representatives of the Government, development partners, the private sector and civil society.

The 30th anniversary of the report is entitled The Next Frontier: Human Development and the Anthropocene. The authors of the document claim that Moldova is one of the countries in the world that demonstrates that less pressure on the planet is possible.

"Moldova's human development index has grown steadily and we are now a country in the group of countries with a high level of human development. However, circumstances dictate more accelerated efforts for almost all Sustainable Development Goals, and a greater ambition to support achievements and increase resilience to new emerging risks, "said Gheorghe Leuca, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova.

The authors of the report also issued some recommendations for our country, including: the introduction of fiscal support packages in the field of ecology to help decouple post-pandemic growth from the environmental and climate impact and to reduce existing social inequalities; Greening the national budget by introducing green budgeting tools to redirect investment, consumption and taxation towards sustainable practices and away from environmentally harmful ones, accelerating the production of green technologies and materials, including eco-innovations in all economic sectors; supporting innovation by involving the private sector, capturing trends in key markets, supporting responsible consumption and expanding behavioral experiments to maximize the contribution of individuals and companies to the 2030 Agenda.
