Moldovan president starts consultations with civil society, legal specialists

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu started today consultations with representatives of civil society, lawyers, specialists in constitutional law, organizations in respect for the rule of law, in order to find out their opinions and recommendations to get out of the political crisis, the presidential press service has reported.

"The Republic of Moldova is in a political deadlock in which, on the one hand, there is a parliamentary majority PSRM-Shor that wants to keep seats and corruption schemes and, on the other hand, an overwhelming majority of the population that ask the thieves to leave. Citizens are always right. Sovereignty is in the hands of the people, not of a narrow interest group," Sandu said.

The first discussion of president took place this afternoon, bringing together representatives of organizations from the Platform of the Civil Society Forum within the Eastern Partnership: Promo-LEX, Expert-Group, Center for Legal Resources of Moldova, Institute for European Policies and Reforms, WatchDog, Amnesty International, Association for Local Democracy, European Institute of Political Studies in Moldova, Regional Environmental Center, Center for Policy and Structural Reforms in the Republic of Moldova, National Trade Union Conference, Alliance of Small and Medium Enterprises.

The participants in the discussion explained how they see, from their perspective, the way out of the political deadlock. They also opted for a detailed communication to explain to citizens reasoning steps taken by decision makers.

"During the consultations I received many useful messages and legal, political and diplomatic recommendations to overcome the deadlock. I am determined to defend the interests of the citizens eventually. Justice is not negotiable. Thieves don't like people. The country needs snap polls, responsible MPs, a competent government with stable support in parliament", Maia Sandu said.

The consultations will continue in the coming days.
