Moldovan parliament might make amendments to legislation on diplomatic service

15:45 | 03.03.2021 Category: Political

Chisinau, 3 March /MOLDPRES/ - The law on the diplomatic service might be amended. The parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration today approved reports on two draft laws, submitted by Moldova’s government and lawmaker Iurie Renita.

Under the drafts, the main amendments establish for the civil servants of the diplomatic service the compulsoriness to know two international circulation languages, non-affiliation with the political parties and the need to abstain from showing his/her political convictions in public.

At the same time, the amendments regard the protection of the rights and interests of the staff of the diplomatic service institutions. Thus, the draft suggests that, upon the expiration of the mission’s term, the civil servant who does not hold diplomatic and consular positions or the member of the administrative, technical or business personnel, detached by transfer to the diplomatic mission or consular office, is transferred to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry. If this is not possible, he/she will be transferred, at option to public, administrative and technical or business offices proposed by the commission for evaluation and contest, by taking into account the length of service at the diplomatic service institutions.

Also, the draft proposes the allowing of the training of diplomats at courses organized and accepted by the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry.

The two drafts are to be discussed at the parliament’s plenary meeting.
