Moldovan parliament's special commission to select candidates for ombudsman office

Chisinau, 3 March /MOLDPRES/ - A special commission for the selection of candidates for the office of Ombudsman will be set up in parliament. The parliamentary juridical commission for rules and immunities adopted a decision to this effect today.
The commission is to be made up of members of the commission for human rights and inter-ethnic relations and the juridical commission for rules and immunities. Thus, the commission will hold the public contest, will select and will put forward to parliament the candidates for the position of Ombudsman.
On 4 February 2021, Moldova’s parliament adopted a decision on the cessation of the mandate of the Ombudsman before term and declared the Ombudsman office vacant. The ombudswoman for the rights of the child, Maia Banarescu, will exercise the interim duties of Ombudsman till a new person is appointed.
