Chisinau, 3 March /MOLDPRES/ - The State Administration of Roads (ASD) and the National Public Security Inspectorate (INSP) of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) today carried out joint actions to boost the observance of the provisions of the road traffic regulation and the rules on the road tax by drivers.

Representatives of the ASD road tax record service, which is charge of the registration of tax for the use of roads in Moldova, along with INSP employees, verified the observance of the payment of the road tax by the drivers who own touring cars registered abroad and the correctness of their procurement.

The action carried out in Chisinau was aimed at identifying the drivers who infringed the provisions of the road traffic regulation, efficiently finding out and documenting the transport means for which the road tax was not paid.

According to the authorities, in 2020, about 435,000 road taxes costing over 95 million lei were bought, with the money collected in the state budget. Since early 2021, the owners of vehicles and trailers attached to them, registered abroad, have purchased about 73,000 road taxes with a total sum of more than 16 million lei.

The cost of the road tax is 85 euros for the first entrance of the touring car and trailer in Moldova for a period of 180 days; the tax for the use of roads will be 180 euros for the next consecutive or incomplete periods of 180 days. After the first 180 days for which the road tax was paid, the tax will be 180 euros and not 85 euros for the next consecutive or incomplete period of 180 days,’’ ASD said.
